I tried to stay in bed today,
My one chance to sleep in,
But the morning tugged at my sleeve
And I had to give in.
The mist was soft against the sky,
The inlet swept in gray
And not a breeze ruffled the trees;
The perfect sleep in day!
But who knows what might happen soon,
The sun might tinge the sky,
Or a flock of Canada Geese
Might rise and fly right by!
And I’d be lounging in my bed,
Wrapped up in flannel dreams,
Where I would miss the morning’s sights…
Plus I can’t sleep, it seems!
See what I mean?!
