Where is the silence of the wood;
The sunlight on the leaf,
The cool, damp moss draped on the rock
In shadow’s deep relief.
I cannot reach that silent place
Where light and shadow play
Beneath the sun flecked evergreens;
It’s all too far away,
But I can reach back in my mind
To find that memory,
And I can almost smell the moss
That grows beside that tree
While sunlight plays across the leaves
And peace wells up in me.
