Good Night

The rain spills on the darkened bay
The moon slips off to tryst
With clouds that shroud the nighttime sky
In mystery and mist.

Good night I call to absent stars
Good night to restless sea
Good night dear one, so far from here,
You mean the world to me.

Goodnight, My Light

And as the night crept up on me
Dark shadows swept the sky.
Then he cast back one parting glance,
A gold glint in his eye.
All I could do was hold my breath
And whisper my good-bye!

The Lord is My Shepard, I Shall Not Want

My world was swathed in shadows deep,
My heart filled with despair;
The obligations I can’t meet,
The wrongs I can’t repair.
I wept until my burdened heart
Was mist drenched like the air.

And God stood back while my tears fell
Although He called to me
But I was wailing, lost in tears,
And so I could not see
The loving hand that He held out
To soothe my misery

But slowly, over all my tears,
I heard his quiet voice
He told me that I am his lamb
He asked me to rejoice
For I don’t have to live in pain
But it must be my choice.
I am his lamb, I shall not want,
Though life may have its gales
For I don’t have to fight alone
Through all of life’s travails
If I but turn my face to Him
His love always prevails

Penelope's Song

I miss the feel of your hand holding mine
I miss your voice in my ear
I miss the feel of your cheek against mine
I miss having you right here.

Like Penelope in old Ithaca
Waiting for love to come home
I spend my days on the duties of life
My nights gazing cross the foam

I know you must do what you’ve gone to do,
I know it’s bigger than me
Though I sit here alone, night after night,
Weeping salt tears in the sea.

Come home from the wars, my Odysseus,
Come back to my lonely arms
Let my heart pillow your dear, weary head
Away from all of war’s harms.
