Autumnal Joys

The summer turns its face to fall
The leaves begin to die
The petals drop from every bloom
The clouds cluster and cry
And yet with all the signs of death
The air is filled with life
For with the colors of bright joy
Each dying leaf is rife

Lift up a song to autumn’s days
And let your heart be light
For winter will not last for long
And dark gives way to light

The moon’s begun her jaunt across the sky
With all the little stars waving good-bye
The wispy clouds, like windswept tresses fly,
Across her face, as silent as a sigh

Moving into Autumn

Misty are the mornings now
And drowsy is the light
Slow to be upon their way
Are moon and secret night

The days are now much shorter
And longer dallies night
Less we see of bright old Sol
And more of damp moonlight

Loons on the Inlet

A Song for Annie

I drifted on a crystal lake;
The stars, in bright array,
Reflected in its mirrored face,
A glittering bouquet.
I scooped the water in my hand
And much to my delight
There in my hand for one small span
I held the twinkling light

But as it slipped out of my grasp
And back in to the sky
I do believe it winked at me
From the corner of its eye

A Playful Morning

Then as the colors of the day
Burst through the sky in bright array
They washed the dark of night away
And bid my heart come out and play!
