The heart that weeps in silent grief
Behind a fast locked door
For the one love that filled her life
And fills her life no more;
The heart that breaks when no one sees
At night, alone in bed
Beside the empty pillow where
He used to lay his head;
The heart that cannot count the days
Since he left her behind
Each day an endless year of pain
In her poor broken mind;
The heart that sees him still sometimes,
As if he stood near by,
And holds him in her dreams at night
Then wakes alone to cry;
The heart that loves him still so much
Can smile through all the pain
Because she knows that someday soon
They’ll be rejoined again.
