Waiting for Joy to Return

Peace does not come easily

But it will come in time

And I will learn to laugh again

And not think it’s a crime

I know in my head it was time

But my heart cries in pain

I can’t accept that you are gone

I want you back again

I see you in that favorite chair

Or watching the TV

I know that you aren’t really there

But you seem real to me

The tear drops seem to bubble up

And I can’t stem the stream

I wake up praying each new dawn

That it was all a dream

But you’re still gone and I still weep

And life still carries on

But someday happiness will stir

And my tears will be gone

Vignettes on Sorrow

Everything in between was packed full of life and joy and courage and honor. Loved, Lost and Living on in so many hearts.

I love you, Popsi. I miss you so much already! Sleep well sweet warrior. We'll hold you again in the light of the Throne.

I woke up this morning to find it’s still true
The world has stopped turning for an hour or two
The water’s still dark & the sky’s the same hue
But there’s no where to go where I can find you.

Lots of little notes and prayers
From friends with love to share
I know they’ll mean so much someday…
Today I just don’t care!

I didn’t say you had to stay,
I thought that you just knew,
And now you’re gone and I’m alone.
I don’t know what to do.

I had not time to get it done,
All that I had to do.
I should have left it all undone
And just come visit you

“He’s doing fine”, is what they said.
“He’s really pulling through.”
So I went on and did my work
And I missed seeing you

“Tomorrow I’ll be up at dawn,
With fewer things to do,
So I’ll go then and spend some time.”
But that plan just fell through.

I’ll never get to stop again
To sit and visit you
Cause you reached out and took God’s hand
And now He’s holding you.

And I’m left with an empty heart
And nothing I can do
Because I chose to work instead
Of being there with you.

I said it every time I left,
And you knew it was true,
But still I wish I'd said once more,
"Sweet Popsi, I love you."

Dreams

And when she slept she often dreamed

Of places she had seen,

Of water falls and winter woods,

Of oceans cold and green;

Then she would bind them in her heart

In colors crisp and clean

And pull them out when she was sad

To relive each bright scene.

Sorrow and Praise

I lift my voice to sing a praise,
But still a praise won’t come
The world is lost in sorrow now
Bitter, bleak and glum
I know there’re praises to be sung
And that I should find some
But right now I can’t find the words
My mind is cold and numb.

But praises find their own way out
And sorrow too will die
So I will lift my voice and sing
Then bow my head and cry.

Reflections

The reflection in the water
Obscures the moon's true face
And yet the fractured image there
Is perfect in its grace
For while it’s not a faultless match
To that transcendent light
Its marred perfection still reflects
Its maker just as bright

Winter Games

The winter mist fills up the Sound,
It whispers at my eaves,
It rustles limbs on winter trees
In search of their lost leaves.

It glitters in the spider webs,
Twines in winter brambles;
It tickles grapevines where they snooze
Amid the garden’s shambles. It plays a game of hide and seek
With winter's pale, weak sun
Until old Sol finally burns through
And then the game is done!!

Peering over My Shoulder

I saw him peering in my room,
My hair stood up on end,
But when he laughed at me I knew,
He was my long lost friend!
