Tears on the Shore

I know I should be past all this,
My tears should now be dry.
At some point I have to give up
And stop these tears I cry.
For much of each day that I spend,
And most of every night,
I have no time for tears to spill
And so I hold them tight.
But now and then the wave of tears
Sweeps high upon my shore
And I am drowning in my grief;
The tears will hold no more.

Today was such a day for me,
I really can’t say why,
But I have wept and dried my tears
And grief will soon pass by.

A Spider's Song for DeAnne

You spun your web of gossamer
Within the darkness of the night
Ceaselessly weaving round and round
A web to snare all who alight

What hunger did you seek to feed
When you designed your web of fright
Was it the belly’s need to feed
or artist’s need to craft delight?

What was your thinking as you spun,
Is this design a pattern trite
Or is it one of spiderdom’s
Designs of awe or fiercest might?

And as you spun your silken web
Of gossamer throughout the night
Did you suspect that with the dawn
All you’d have caught was mist and light?

The Muse and The Poet

It’s fair, indeed, to credit the muse
For the gift to inspire,
But ‘tis the poet who takes the thought
And forms it into fire.

There can’t be flames without the muse
And none without the poet,
For one knows how to kindle the blaze
The other how to grow it.

Winter Dreaming

The dryad dreams of summer blooms
Of fragrances so sweet
Of grasses drifting in the breeze
Beneath her unshod feet

The dryad settled for the winter
When snows and cold abound
Where the first buds of the spring time
Would peek above the ground

The dryad senses the rich earth
Where her roots burrow deep
And twine themselves within her dreams
While she is fast asleep

The dryad sleeps within her wood
And safe within her tree
She dreams of all that spring will bring
When winter sets her free

Last Night's Bad Dream

Dreaming in slow motion
One step at a time
Never getting farther
No matter how I climb
Everything that I had planned
Transforms inside my mind
To something I had never thought
Left someplace I can’t find
Dreaming in slow motion
Running in one place
Looking in the mirror
Seeing someone else’s face
Flying and then falling
Before I hit the ground
Waking up heart pounding
The dark night all around

Here's to The Dark and The Light

Here’s to the darkness I can’t quite beat
Here’s to the river of pain at my feet
Here’s to the answers I can’t seem to find
Here’s to the questions that haunt my mind
Here’s to the someone that I should be
Here’s to finding that better me

Here’s to the memories, bitter and sweet
Here’s to the dreams I can never complete
Here’s to the lover I left behind
Here’s to the love that I let unwind
Here’s to being the person I should
Here’s to turning my bad into good

Echoes

Where’s the echo to the song of my heart
I’m living in the void
That drear space between night’s end and dawn
Where darkness is deployed

Where are the answers to all my questions
The ones that deal with pain
The ones that touch on fears abounding
In bitter tears and rain

Where are the blossoms of early spring
The fragrances of light
That adorned my hair when springtime was mine
And withered with the night

It all was here and then it was gone
And will not come again
Though I may drown in pooled sunlight
Where the memories remain

Psalm 143:8

Psalm 143:8
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.
