After All The Rain

I thought that you were gone for good,
Lost to clouds and rain,
But I looked up and there you were!
Peering down again!

A Dream of Spring

When all the world is damp and gray
And all you feel is cold,
Remember, spring’s a dream away,
In colors rich and bold.

The DeLight of Morning

DeLight wakes me up each morning,
Whispering in my ear,
"Get up, Get up! Come dance with me,
For I will bring you cheer!"

For DeLight is born of laughter
That spills forth from the sun,
Then bursts across the morning sky
When day has just begun.

Trapped in Winter

She’s bound by winter’s icy heart
And trapped within its flood.
Knowing that the spring is near,
Stirs not her sluggish blood;
She never feels her tangled hair
Trapped in the rain and mud.

But presently dark winter’s pall
Will melt and wash away,
For, though it still holds her in thrall,
The spring is on its way
With all its warmth and bursting buds,
Blossoms in bright array.

So, let the winter hold her dreams
For yet a little while,
The dryad soon will wake from sleep
And all her wood will smile.

Teasing Me

They take so much haughty delight
In simply rising up in flight,
Then glance back at me, uncontrite...
I think they do it out of spite!

What Bugs You?

I was startled at the detail that my camera caught with a simple fly sunbathing on the deck railing.
Sorry for posting a bug... well, a disgusting bug.

Joyful Blossoms

All the cheery little blossoms,
Harbingers of things to come,
Dance with joy to think of spring time;
Bobbing as the breezes hum.

Dance you cheery sprites of spring time,
Laughing in the warming light,
For you’re more than simple blossoms;
You are burgeoning delight!

The Pieces of A Broken Heart

All the scattered little pieces
Of her forlorn and broken heart
Lay in tatters all around her,
Where each fell as they broke apart.
As she looked, in grief, upon them,
Tasting their tears, salty and tart,
She realized that each piece still
Loved him, as she had from the start.

So she gathered them together
And washed them in her flowing tears.
She knew she could not console them,
For they would love him all their years.
So she buried them where thistles
Would guard them with their fearsome spears.
She left them, but she can't forget;
Their weeping is still all she hears.

Night's Captive

The restless night has captured me,
I scarcely hope to sleep,
For all sweet dreams have fled a world
Where wakeful worries creep.

Be not deceived by night’s sweet kiss,
For no joy lingers there;
There is no pity in its heart,
Just dark, anxious despair.

Still down my window’s cold black pane
The night weeps bitterly,
While I sit, waiting in the dark,
For sleep that cannot be.

Getting a Head Start on Spring

The Longing Returns

I wandered out into the night,
I heard them calling me.
They whispered in the hollow reeds
That dance down by the sea.

I know that they are out there still,
Beneath the moon’s chill glow.
I saw them laugh and beckon me
Then go where I can’t go.

I linger, still, down by the shore,
Hoping they left a trace,
But all I find is a dark sea
Reflecting the moon’s face.
