The Hiding Place

Twas often that she slipped away
Into a quiet place
Where stillness filled the darkness
And pain showed not its face.

There in her secret, quiet world
No lies were ever told,
No one she loved would ever leave,
Or ever grow too old.

It was a place where stillness reigned,
Where teardrops never fell,
For no one else intruded there
Where sorrow dared not dwell,

Born in the realm of sadness,
Cast on the shores of grief,
She knew no respite from the storms,
Had no hope of relief

Until she stumbled, in despair,
Upon her silent realm.
There grief was held, at last, at bay
And peace stood at the helm.

She never found a way to live
Within her peace too long,
But she could linger long enough
To help her get along.

A Dream

I woke up from a dream of you,
You lingered in my head.
I wondered if it meant something
And I was filled with dread.

But I will never know the truth,
For we are out of touch,
Though I still think of you often
And miss you very much.

You were the friend I loved too much,
But then had to let go,
And now you’re showing up again
In dreams that haunt me so.

I’m sure it’s just a restless thought
That rose up through my sleep,
But it left me a memory
That I now get to keep.
