Just Passing Through

Scattered moments and little smiles
Nothing of great value.
They’re simply there to light my day
As they are passing through.

Blossoms busting forth in joy,
Bright colors on display.
It doesn’t really take a lot
To brighten up my day.

I’m grateful, as the years roll on,
That I still find delight
In all the little things in life,
Bright colors, morning light.

The time will come when I have lost
Those smiles I watched pass through.
My memories will fade with time,
But for now, they will do.

I'll Go No More

The tide slips in so quietly,
and lingers on the shore.
It’s waiting for me to come down,
but down I'll go no more.

So, it will turn and drift away
and give back to the sea
all of the cold and salty tears
it once reserved for me.

A Long, Long Day

Today has been a bit too long,
Tonight's well underway
And I should be in bed by now...
There's no cause for delay.

Yet still I sit here quietly
And think back on this day.
I count my blessings gratefully,
Then wipe my tears away.

For there is nothing tears can fix,
And faith will lead me through
Whatever twists and turns still stand
Between my heart and You.

So I will rise and seek my rest,
Tomorrow's on it's way,
And I will face it joyfully
Despite this long, long day.

Cold Nights and Frosted Colors

The cold night settles in once more,
Frosting window and leaf.
As if the world had lost its joy
And lingered in its grief.

The world feels emptier tonight
Than it did yesterday,
But a new day will soon arrive
And joy is on its way.

I’ll wait as the dark slips on by,
And keep watch for the dawn.
The cold night will give way to light
Though the frost lingers on.

Tangled

The sun lay tangled in the tree,
Snared as it drifted by,
And, for a moment, its gold light
Burnished the western sky.

But, as she watched, it slipped away
To settle in the sea,
Until all that remained to her
Was just the memory.

Yet even in the dark of night,
While all the world lay blind,
The beauty of that gold sunset
Lay tangled in her mind.

Mid-Winter Solstice

Tonight, the darkness lingers on
Beneath the winter moon.
Tomorrow’s dawn seems so far off.
It cannot come too soon.

The long, cold nights of winter’s song
Will, someday, warm to spring,
But for tonight, its grip is fierce,
Its winds bitterly sting.

Within the solstice hope grows dim.
Under the moon, dreams die
For lack of light, too little warmth
And no dawn drawing nigh.

Yet, tomorrow the sun will rise,
The moon’s power will wane.
With the new light, warmth will return,
Though winter’s dreams remain.

The Night Whispers

The night is whispering my name
I hear it calling me.
It bids me linger ‘neath the stars
Reflecting in the sea.
It calls to me to dance across
The bridge of soft moonlight
And linger yet a little while
Within the breathless night.

But I will not heed the night’s call,
Though I may wish I could,
For there are promises I’ve made
And I’ll do as I should.
I’ll rise up in the morning’s light
And work hard through the day,
Then listen once more as the night
Whispers come out and play.
