Thank You, For All You've Done

Thank you for the patient years
That you have seen me through,
In all the turbulence of life
You knew just what to do.
You carried me when I was small
And much too weak to stand
And every time I needed you
You let me hold your hand.
So now that time has turned on you,
And placed you in my care,
I hope I’ll do as good a job
Of always being there
To hold you when your steps are weak,
Or help you when you fall,
For you have done so much for me,
I can’t repay it all.
So I will ask that God give you
What you’re deserving of:
The priceless gift you gave to me,
My ceaseless, patient love.

Flying into the Son

A year ago you said good bye
And flew into the sun
And every day that has passed since
Hurts as much as that one.
But I am learning to believe
That, when my life is done,
I’ll follow in the path you took
And fly into the Son.

I've missed you every day that’s passed,
I’ve counted every one,
But I’ll stick with the task you set
Until my work is done.
And someday when I’ve finished here,
When all my wars are won,
You’ll come for me and lead me home,
We'll fly into the Son.

A Vivid Dream

One time I dreamed that I could fly
Above the windy sea
And as I sailed above the waves
They whispered up at me,
“If only we could be like you
And live forever free!”

But then I woke upon the shore
Beside the windy sea
And all the little waves that passed
Spoke not a word to me.
Yet in my heart I still recall
How it felt to be free!

The Moth and the Flame

You are the flame that draws my love
On breathless, mothlike wings;
You are the song that fills the night,
Though only my heart that sings;
Your love’s the water, sweet and pure,
And I’m the mountain springs;
You are the moon and twinkling stars,
The fire that cool night brings.

Dear Love, you are my everything
You’re all my heart’s desire
I am the moth with love singed wing
And you’re my passion’s fire.

Praise in Golden Peace

The golden light of dawn is nigh,
The quick birds all on wing
Are brushing just above the waves
Where wispy mists still cling.

As morning wakes to greet the dawn
The murmur of the gull
Ripples softly across the breeze
While sleepy waters lull.

And there, below the rising sun,
Where peaceful waters flow,
The morning sings its praise to God
Within the golden glow.

Tears on the Shore

I know I should be past all this,
My tears should now be dry.
At some point I have to give up
And stop these tears I cry.
For much of each day that I spend,
And most of every night,
I have no time for tears to spill
And so I hold them tight.
But now and then the wave of tears
Sweeps high upon my shore
And I am drowning in my grief;
The tears will hold no more.

Today was such a day for me,
I really can’t say why,
But I have wept and dried my tears
And grief will soon pass by.

A Spider's Song for DeAnne

You spun your web of gossamer
Within the darkness of the night
Ceaselessly weaving round and round
A web to snare all who alight

What hunger did you seek to feed
When you designed your web of fright
Was it the belly’s need to feed
or artist’s need to craft delight?

What was your thinking as you spun,
Is this design a pattern trite
Or is it one of spiderdom’s
Designs of awe or fiercest might?

And as you spun your silken web
Of gossamer throughout the night
Did you suspect that with the dawn
All you’d have caught was mist and light?
