Within the Dryad's Tears

In the darkest gray of winter,
When memories of spring had died,
A small trace of summer lingered
In every tear the Dryad cried.

An Apology....

You have probably noticed that I have slowed down my work here over the past year. I'm sorry. I have been working on another blog, Each Day A Praise, and it has taken up quite a bit of the time I have had to spare. But I am about to shuffle off some of my obligations now, and I hope to be back here more often. I miss my Haven and the mysteries that linger within it. In the interim, please drop by
http://eachdayapraise.blogspot.com/ sometime. I'll watch for you there and be back here very soon.

By way of an apology, here are a few of my favorite photos from our recent snow storm.

My Wee Knight Grows Up

I remember how sweet you were,
All those years ago,
And now I find you all grown up.
Where did all those year go?

You looked so brave in your armor
When you met that dragon.
You looked so proud, it was so real,
And its tail was waggin.

Again today you look that proud
And life is bound to please.
It may not be quite “dragon cool”,
But you’re holding car keys.

My little knight’s a teenager
I laugh, and yet I cry.
Ten years have passed and you’re all grown.
I miss that little guy!

But I can’t wait to see the world
That you have by the tail.
You’re still my brave and gallant knight
And you’ll always prevail.

The Hiding Place

Twas often that she slipped away
Into a quiet place
Where stillness filled the darkness
And pain showed not its face.

There in her secret, quiet world
No lies were ever told,
No one she loved would ever leave,
Or ever grow too old.

It was a place where stillness reigned,
Where teardrops never fell,
For no one else intruded there
Where sorrow dared not dwell,

Born in the realm of sadness,
Cast on the shores of grief,
She knew no respite from the storms,
Had no hope of relief

Until she stumbled, in despair,
Upon her silent realm.
There grief was held, at last, at bay
And peace stood at the helm.

She never found a way to live
Within her peace too long,
But she could linger long enough
To help her get along.

A Dream

I woke up from a dream of you,
You lingered in my head.
I wondered if it meant something
And I was filled with dread.

But I will never know the truth,
For we are out of touch,
Though I still think of you often
And miss you very much.

You were the friend I loved too much,
But then had to let go,
And now you’re showing up again
In dreams that haunt me so.

I’m sure it’s just a restless thought
That rose up through my sleep,
But it left me a memory
That I now get to keep.

Ducks In A Row

Sometimes the puzzle’s just too hard,
The pieces won’t all go.
No matter how hard I might try
My ducks aren’t in a row.

I wave my arms and circle fast
With nothing much to show
Because, no matter how I rush,
My ducks aren’t in a row.

My sweat and tears just get me wet,
The garden still won’t grow.
No matter how hard I might work
My ducks aren’t in a row.

And so I’m giving duck wrangling
A big, hearty heave ho,
For life is about so much more
Than ducks all in a row!
