The Child of the Wild, Wild Wind

Where have you sailed on the empty, wild wind,
How far, far away will you roam?
How long will you linger beyond my sight
And why will you never come home?

Oh, did you know that you carried my heart
When you sailed to the world’s far end?
I could easier live without my heart
Than the child of the wild, wild wind.

I called to the clouds to bind the wild wind
And free you from its siren song,
But they just laughed as they drifted away
And the wild wind urged them along.

Oh, did you know that you carried my heart
When you sailed to the world’s far end?
I could easier live without my heart
Than the child of the wild, wild wind.

When the impish stars all come twinkling out
To frolic with the wayward moon
I’ll beg the wild winds to carry you home,
But I know that you won’t come soon.

Oh, did you know that you carried my heart
When you sailed to the world’s far end?
I could easier live without my heart
Than the child of the wild, wild wind.

So I sit and I watch the wild, wild wind
As it tatters the frothy foam
And I know that I’ll belong to the sea
‘Ere the wild, wild winds bring you home.

Oh, did you know that you carried my heart
When you sailed to the world’s far end?
I could easier live without my heart
Than the child of the wild, wild wind.
