Golden Smile

A golden crown to greet the day,
The first light of the sun
Reflects itself within your smile.
A new day has begun.

And Then I Think of You

The night skies now are clear and cold,
They’re misty with each dawn,
While autumn’s breathing down my neck
And winter's coming on.

I love the season’s changing face,
Its cool breath on my hair.
Anticipating what comes next,
Excitement in the air.

The afternoon warms late born fruit
That frosts with morning dew,
And when the air turns crisp with snow
I smile and think of you….

The Wild Grass

The wild grass sings a summer song
To greet the autumn breeze.
Bowing to the inevitable,
Not fearing winter’s freeze.
For, with the passing of the cold,
The spring will bring sweet rain
And all the wild grasses will sing
Their summer song again.

The Silkie, My Heart and The Sea

Come back Silkie, come back to me,
I wait for you despairingly
To swim back through the cold salt sea
And return what you took from me.

When I first met my dark Silkie
I was down walking by the sea.
He touched my face so lovingly,
Then stole my mortal heart from me.

We lingered there, down by the sea,
While days slipped by most joyously.
I told myself he’d stay with me,
But that, alas, was not to be.

For there was no hold I could see,
On one who’d lived so fierce and free,
And he was drawn back to the sea,
Though I begged him to stay with me.

Now he has gone, despite my plea,
Back to the arms of the salt sea,
And with him went the heart in me.
So I weep inconsolably.

If he will not come back to me,
Then I shall swim out to the sea.
Perhaps he’ll meet me willingly.
If not, my lost heart drowns with me.

One Last Hug

And as the sun bids day farewell
To settle into night
It wraps the world in one last hug
Of fierce, prismatic light

Rusting Irony

You labored neath a burning sun,
Despite the dirt and dust,
To mow the fields, so over grown,
Where you now sit and rust.

How vain the efforts of your life,
As ironies abound;
The grass you strove to keep well mowed
Flourishes all around.

Yet, still you rest there, in the field,
Surveying, mile on mile,
The pastures of your labors past
As grass grows all the while.

Autumn Approaches

Whispers of the coming fall
Rustle in the leaves
Dying colors sweep the ground
Huddling in the eaves

Say good-bye to summer’s warmth
Autumn’s on its way
Shades of mist and dreariness
Color each new day

Days are growing shorter now
Stronger grows the night
The cold moon claims heavens throne
From sun’s feeble light

Oh yes, autumn’s on its way
Summer’s grip slips fast
Trees shed leaves like memories
All is lost at last

Foreboding

I feel an ominous sense of despair,
As if my whole world might explode.
Something is wrong, some darkness is looming;
I fear what all it may forebode.
The air that I breathe is holding me down;
I want to scream, I want to run.
But I can’t move, I’m trapped in this place
And all that I do’s been undone.

Oh please let me wake, it must be a dream,
Reality can’t be this bad.
How can I wake from a dream I’m not in?
If it’s real then I may go mad!

Longing to Fly

When the sunlight litters the sea
With diamonds that spilled from the sky,
I spread my wings with joyous heart;
Even my shadow longs to fly.
