I wandered by the endless sea;
A cold and grim eternityWas all that I could see for me,
As I walked by the endless sea.
I had not held my lover’s heart,
I knew I couldn’t from the start,
But faithfully I did my part
Until I lost my lover’s heart.
I offered myself in his place,
But, though I’d lived without disgrace,
Heaven required his sweet face
And would not take mine in its place.
So now I linger by the sea,
Its cold waves washing over me.
The barren shore has set me free
To seek relief within the sea.
