I had to stand out in the night
And listen to the stars,
And to the water pooling in
The concrete’s cracks and scars,
And to the creaking of the leaves
That shrivel on the vine.
I had to stand out in the night
And listen to what’s mine.
So much that roars in light of day
Goes silent in the night,
The greatest worries nestle down,
The anguishes take flight,
Tomorrow’s cares still have no voice,
Their faces I can’t see.
There in the dark in my back yard
There’s only peace and me.
